Low Pellet Formation Rate for New Wood Pellet Mills? Run-in Is the Key!

New wood pellet mills tend to "fail" right after startup—either jamming with die hole blockage and no output, or producing loose, unformed pellets with sharply lower formation rates. The main cause is usually neglected "running-in"; never use normal wood chips directly for a new pellet mill!
Proper running-in steps are simple:

Prepare wood chips, mix in ~10% industrial oil, crush lumps, and ensure thorough blending.

Load the mixture into the pellet mill, start pelletizing. After the first batch, pour the pellets back and repeat 5-6 times.

Once run-in is done, switch to normal wood chips. The pellet mill will then work stably with significantly improved formation rate.
Skipping run-in leaves the new pellet mill’s rollers and die poorly adapted, often causing uneven pressure and die hole blockage. This disrupts production and shortens the mill’s service life. So spend time on running-in first for smoother pelletizing later!
