The figure above shows the cross-section of a single die hole. As can be seen, each die hole is not a straight cylindrical hole; it consists of three sections: the feed lead hole, compression hole and relief hole.
1.Feed lead hole: Pre-feeds and pre-compresses the material before it enters the compression section of the die hole.
2.Compression hole: The section where material pelletizing takes the core forming effect.
3.Relief hole: It does not contribute to compression forming and is used to adjust the length of the compression hole.

The sections that perform the actual compression and forming of material are the feed lead hole plus the compression hole (marked as L in the drawing). The die hole diameter refers to the diameter of the compression hole (marked as D in the drawing).

Therefore, the compression ratio can be expressed by an intuitive formula as follows: Compression ratio = Die hole diameter / Effective compression length Compression ratio = D : L
Using the sample data in the drawing for illustration: Compression ratio = D : L = 8:40 = 1:5 (commonly referred to as a compression ratio of 1:5)
